Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 3, 2026 · Applies to Black Focus for Android

The short version: Black Focus works fully without an account — no data leaves your device. If you sign in with Google, your sessions sync to your personal cloud storage. We don't sell data, show ads, or share your information with anyone except the services that power the app.

01 What we collect

Without an account — nothing leaves your device:

  • Focus sessions (duration, timestamp, tag, completion status) — stored locally only
  • App preferences (timer settings, onboarding status) — stored locally only

When you sign in with Google:

DataWhy
Name & email addressTo identify your account
Profile photo URLDisplayed in the app drawer
Focus sessions & tagsSynced to your cloud storage
Firebase user IDTo link your data to your account

When you share your stats:

  • A snapshot of your stats (total time, streak, session count, top tags) is saved publicly
  • Only created when you tap Share — never automatically
  • Anyone with your share link can view it at blackfocus.app/stats/your-name

02 Why we collect it

  • To sync your sessions across devices when signed in
  • To show your statistics inside the app
  • To generate your public stats page when you choose to share
  • To restore your data when you reinstall or switch devices

We do not use your data for advertising, analytics, profiling, or any purpose beyond making the app work.

03 Third-party services

Firebase (Google LLC)

  • Firebase Authentication — handles Google Sign-In securely. We never see your password.
  • Cloud Firestore — stores your synced session and tag data in your personal account space

Subject to Google's Privacy Policy. Data stored in Google Cloud infrastructure (US — nam5 region).

Google Sign-In

Authentication is handled entirely by Google. We only receive the basic profile information you authorize. We never store your password.

We do not share your data with any other third parties, advertisers, or data brokers.

04 Storage & security

  • Local data — stored in Room database, protected by Android's app sandbox
  • Cloud data — stored in Firestore with security rules ensuring only you can access your data
  • Public stats — readable by anyone with the link; not indexed or searchable

We implement reasonable security measures. We encourage using a strong Google account password with two-factor authentication.

05 Your rights

  • Access — your sessions are visible in the Statistics screen
  • Delete — uninstall to remove local data; email us to request cloud deletion
  • Opt out — don't sign in; the app works fully offline with no data leaving your device
  • Revoke access — remove Black Focus at myaccount.google.com/permissions

To request deletion or export of your data, email feedback@blackfocus.app with subject "Data Request".

06 Children's privacy

Black Focus is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Contact us if you believe a child has provided personal information and we will delete it promptly.

07 Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when the app's functionality changes. Changes will be reflected in the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance.
